The RNLI is well known for providing lifeboat and rescue services at sea and as a sailor I never pass an RNLI collection box without dropping in a few coins. However, what is less well-known is that the RNLI also provides flood rescue. The RNLI flood rescue team can be anywhere in the UK within six hours and anywhere in the world with 24 hours. The RNLI’s UK services and equipment are entirely funded from donations; it is astounding that such vital emergency work is not supported by public funds. Recent events have shown how much we need flood rescue teams so, today, please join me in donating to the RNLI.
